The first driver to sign up race to the Dunlop MSA Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain in the brand new Formula Ford 200 car is James Abbott.
Abbott started car racing in 2010, but hasn't taken a usual route to single-seater racing as he has been racing in high-performance Radical Sportscars. James Abbott is the son of Radical founder, Phil Abbott. Therefore this has allowed James to get some great opportunities from the beginning of his racing career where in his first year he raced the Radical PR6 in the Radical Clubman's Cup and the Radical SR3 in the Radical UK Cup.
Abbott continued in both the Radical Clubman's Cup and the Radical UK Cup in 2011 but time in the Radical SR3. He managed to take the title in the Radical Clubman's and had some strong performances in the Radical UK Cup where on occasions he shared the car with Le Mans racer Alex Brundle.
In 2012, Abbott continued to race in the Radical UK Cup but this time in the Radical SR8 which he shared with Shaun Balfe, they managed to score podiums throughout the season. But 2012 was the year that Abbott got into a single-seater car for the first time where he raced in the MSV F3 Cup where again he managed to score podiums.
This year James Abbott will race in the Formula Ford Champion in a Sinter chassis, he said "“I work full time on the preparation of Radical’s sports cars and I fully expect to be preparing the Formula Ford car and work on it between races. I don’t expect there will be many drivers on the grid with as much knowledge of their car – particularly as I have also been involved in product testing at Radical and tyre testing with Dunlop – and I hope that it will be an advantage for me.”
