The fourteen year old said "I've always had an keen interest in motorsport and cars from about the age of four years old. It was my Dad (Ray Higgs) that got me most interested in racing when in 2005 when he started racing. At the time I was seven, the car he started racing was a Jaguar XK140 and I first went out on a race track in the jag and was amazed by the rush and the speed of the car and from that point I knew I wanted to be a race driver!"
Higgs started his career last year in Saxmax, "I almost went into go-karting but was advised by a Saxmax driver (Will Plant) not to do karting, so we spoke to Richard plant and he said to my Dad we could buy Will's car so that's what we did. And spending some time on track with Jamie Stanley it didn't take long for him to get me on the pace! I missed the first race at silverstone because I was top young but Brands Hatch was my first race and I qualified sixth and had a very wet race where I finished sixth out of eight drivers. 2012 was a successful year for me and a great learning curve as I became apart of Team Ferguson Motorsport. After joining their team and learning a lot from Joe (Ferguson) I really started to show my potential in Motorsport!"
This year Higgs will be sharing the Fiesta with Joe Ferguson, Ferguson will race in the 'Senior' race while Higgs will be in the Junior race. "I'm looking foward to working alongside Joe and learning from him and bringing the best out of the car and myself. The cars look great and can't wait to get out on track on in one! I know the team can get the car set up to how me and Joe need it to perform at our best."
His instructor Jamie Stanley said "Mikey made his car racing debut last year in the Saxmax championship after he passed his Ards test with me. He picked up the basics very quick and despite some technical issues with the car that really did hold him back in the early races he made fantastic progress and really got to the front end of the field by the seasons end if we can beat the weather and get the right amount of testing in pre season then he should be a real contender for this years Fiesta Junior championship. I know the guys are working really hard to get the car out but time is tight and the weather at the minute really isn't helping our cause but i cant wait to see Mikey out racing again this year."
